Common Ground Healing Arts

Want to learn to fly and laugh a lot along the way? Join us for C’ville Satsang May 13th. Acroyoga is a community building practice where we literally lift each other up. It utilizes the core and balance building practices of asana and combines them with a partner practice that unlocks more possibilities for inversion, flow, and connection. Melanie Ross-Fairchild will lead us in learning how to support each other through basing, flying, and spotting for safety. In the acroyoga community expect to find these three modes: thai massage, solar or active practices and lunar practice – translated as therapeutic flying – curious about therapeutic flying? Come find out!

The Magic of Bandhas
Wednesday, May 17 – June 7, 2017
A 4-week series to experience your power to positively change

Common Ground Healing Arts

If you practice yoga, you know how good an asana practice can make you feel. But did you know that the physical practice of yoga is only the first stage? Exploring other aspects of the yoga practice can make you feel even better.

The bandhas are internal muscular ‘locks’ that, with practice, you can intentionally engage as necessary. Bandhas play an important role on both the physical and spiritual level. Through engaging the bandhas, we can learn how to direct the flow of energy within the body for greater physical, mental and spiritual health.

The nature of your energy in any given moment shapes your perspective of the world. By learning to shape your energy, you learn how to shift your perspective and interactions. Your creative impulses will enliven, self-confidence and enthusiasm will improve. You will feel more embodied, more grounded, and more determined, all without having to do extreme physical yoga postures.

In this series we will be utilizing basic physical postures and breath as a way to relate to the bandhas. Therefore, knowledge of the foundational physical postures is required.

Unlock the magic within and experience your power to positively change.

“Toward the One” – Sufi and Yoga Moving Meditation
Saturday, March 25th, 2:00-4:00pm
Common Ground Healing Arts

Common Ground Healing Arts

Many spiritual practices use the breath, meditation, chants, and movement to quiet the mind, to be still long enough to connect with God/Source/Divine Expression. In the Sufi tradition of chants and slow circle dances, you reach an inner state of calm and peace, and radiate that peace to the larger world.

This program incorporates chants, songs and circle dances from the Sufi and Yoga traditions to move inward, calming your mind and heart. Because the chants and movements are simple, you will be able to dive deeply into the Beloved, the Source of Oneness. You will leave feeling spiritually renewed and grounded. An extra bonus is that you can use them throughout your week when you start to feel overwhelmed or stressed.

Guest: Dr. Linda Ferguson is an author, speaker, and spiritual life coach supporting people to create greater joy and balance in their life. She also leads Shamanic Journeys, spiritual study groups, worship services, and retreats related to her two books “The Path for Greatness – Work as Spiritual Service” and “Staying Grounded in Shifting Sand”.

Winter Yin Series
Common Ground Healing Arts
Wednesdays, January 11- February 15, 2017

Common Ground Healing Arts

When days shorten and temperatures drop, nature urges us to slow down and go inward. However, the frenetic nature of the holiday season pulls us into hyper-productivity and we forget the importance of recovery time. We need rest in order to balance the nervous system, decrease elevated stress hormones, improve mental clarity and fully heal.

Yin Yoga is a meditative approach to yoga that teaches us conscious control of relaxation. It is a body-based mindfulness approach that is suitable for all levels of students. Practicing Yin will enable you to find a deep sense of calm, get centered, and let go. Using props for support, postures are held for longer periods of time (3-5 minutes), targeting the connective tissues, such as the ligaments, bones, and even the joints of the body around the hips, pelvis, and lower spine.

Yin Yoga is designed to improve the flow of Chi, the subtle yet vital energy that flows throughout the body. Improved Chi brings healing to the organs, immune system and improves general well being. You will leave each class feeling deeply relaxed, centered and filled with a sense of ease.
Thursday February 22nd is scheduled as a potential make-up day in the event of inclement weather. A full paying series is $100 and the course is available on a sliding scale (based on income).

Yoga Nidra-Deep Relaxation for Healing. (SOLD OUT)

4-week series
Common Ground Healing Arts

Common Ground Healing Arts

As we enter into the holiday season we encounter more stress, less daylight and can feel overwhelmed.  If you need help to feel rejuvenated, find inner peace and boost your immune system, join me once again at Common Ground Healing Arts beginning November 30th, for a 4-week series, Yoga Nidra-Deep Relaxation for Healing.

Yoga Nidra, or yogic sleep, is a guided systematic method that helps the practitioner to enter deeper states of relaxation yet become increasingly aware of their inner surroundings.  The practice of Yoga Nidra has been found to reduce tension, anxiety, headaches and boost immune function and the body’s ability to heal from injury, chronic stress or illness.
Each week you will experience a new session that will enable your body to enter these deeper states of relaxation while remaining consciously awake, so that the body can heal, integrate and assimilate.  Afterwards you will feel incredibly calm, grounded, and focused.

The Enneagram has the potential to guide us on all life’s matrices and is an access point of self-inquiry and spiritual growth, easily supporting existing yoga or meditation practices.

An overview of the Enneagram, group dialogue, and meditation, will provide you with a better understanding of your unique motivations, fears, and desires. If you’ve been feeling spiritually stuck, this session might serve to free your flow — or at the very least, help you uncover some of your own resistances and fixations creating your “stuckness.”

You will leave with new levels of awareness regarding the deep inner workings of your orientation to the world.

Expect to be surprised!

C’ville Satsang is turning ONE!
Come together in celebration and remembrance
Sunday, October 30th, 2016
1:30PM – 3:30PM

This group was created with the intention of building a stronger yoga and holistic community, that shares their gifts and interests, support one other and identify needs in the community where we can offer service. In other words, to build a family.

Familial ties are made strong by sharing stories, food and spending time together. This time of year I usually host a small gathering in my home to celebrate Dia de los Muertos, The Day of the Dead. This is not a sad, scary or gruesome Halloween event. Quite the contrary, it’s a time to share stories, food and laughter.

In case you are not familiar with DOD it is traditionally a Latin American holiday celebrating the life of those loved ones that have past. Now, I’m not Latino (or at least I don’t think I am) but I love this holiday because it is a beautiful and loving way to come together to celebrate and honor the lives and journeys of those that have past from this life and enjoy the company of those still with us.

As I extend my circle of ‘family’, I wanted to include C’ville Satsang in this wonderful celebration. Because my home is not large enough for all of you, we will be joining together at a wonderful new studio downtown, Let It Be Studio. I love this studio because the primary intention is to build community!

It is traditional to create an honorary altar for our loved ones, so people can bring a small article (picture, trinket, etc) that reminds them of the person or persons they’ll be remembering to be placed on the altar, (don’t worry, you get to take it home). It is also tradition to share a story (no pressure). Through story telling, we recall the wisdom of our elders and the beauty of life and learn a bit more about our friends.

Tapping Into The Hara Line
Saturday, September 25th, 2016
Common Ground Healing Arts

Common Ground Healing Arts

Often energy healing is seen as personal and individual work. However, for September’s C’ville Satsang, 3 amazing women will collaborate and share their unique gifts in a group healing experience that is hard to find: Elizabeth Bain, Kim Lohan and Dana Wheeles..

These three healers will relay their story of how collaboration has been a way to build friendship, community and offer healing. Participants will be guided via meditation and through an experiential exercise of holding “hara.” This exercise works to connect the 3 points on the hara line – the tan tien (grounding / physical manifestation) the soul seat (longing / desire) and ID point (connection with divine). Participants will be guided on a journey of self-discovery and exploring how they can bring their own unique healing gifts out into the world. This is a very special offering you will not want to miss!

This is a free event, however donations to Common Ground are always gratefully appreciated.
